It will probably be necessary for you to allow people to test drive your used car if you are planning on selling it. The test drive can be what makes or breaks the sale of your used car; if the buyer is unimpressed after driving your car then obviously he is not going to buy it. Here are just a few of the things that you need do in order to prepare for a test drive of your car.

- Remember that it is very important for you to clean the inside and outside of the car. Be thorough when you are doing this; don’t try to cut corners. Some buyers will want to look in places that seem very strange to you so make sure you clean everywhere.

- You will want to ensure that the car smells nice. If you are a smoker then the car probably smells of stale cigarette smoke so you have to try to get rid of this and obviously you will have to stop smoking in the car. Nasty smells in the car could put some people off buying your car. What can often happen is that these smells are not noticeable to us because we are so familiar with them. Asking someone else for a second opinion is probably a good idea.

- It is up to you to ensure that the warning lights and the different controls in the car are working. Most people doing a test drive will want to test everything so if anything is broken you are advised to get it fixed beforehand.

- Most potential buyers will be listening for any odd sounds during the test drive coming from the engine or elsewhere in the car. If your car makes any funny noises then you should know why or get them seen to.

- You will want to allow the buyer to test the car but agree on the length of the test beforehand; you don’t want somebody using all your petrol even though they have no real intention of buying.
