As well as the Chinese hosts, praise was also given for the major input into the styling, design and engineering development that came from the MG site at Birmingham.

After designing the original MG Zero concept car the MG Birmingham team went on to then design the MG3, which includes a lot of similar styles to that of the MG Zero and will most likely go on sale in China in the next few months for around the 6,000 region.

With an incredibly spacious interior, dynamic frame and wide hexagonal front grills, the MG3 displays new hints of sportiness and was displayed with new bumpers, wheels and larger tyres when presented at the China Motor Show.

The detailed technical specifications of the MG3 are still yet to be released, but the model will now be powered by a new 109 brake horse power, 1.5-litre petrol engine, it has been revealed. New developments with a 1.3-litre four-cylinder unit and a top spec turbocharged version of the 1.5 version mean that they are set to join the line-up in the very near future.

SAIC are one of the world’s biggest car companies and are the owners of MG. SAIC’s UK technical centre and MG Motor UK are based in the city of Birmingham and is also home to about 300 of their engineers and designers.

Guy Jones, MG Motor UK’s marketing director strongly believes that “the incredible reception the MG3 has in China is a great reflection on all the hard work put in by the designers and engineers here in Birmingham”
