Leasing a car certainly has its benefits but looking at the pros and cons before you make a decision is the best way forward. It’s a great idea to lease whether you want a car for personal or business use. But think about what you will need the motor for before plumping for a particular package.

People love owning cars. To many it’s the be all and end all, the ultimate status symbol. So the leasing option is never going to be for you if you are obsessed with getting your name on the owner’s document.

Having to sign contracts also drives people away. If you do decide to lease you are entering into a legal agreement which could last between 18 and 72 months depending on how long you’ve agreed the lease. This is just too much of a suffocating proposition for some people. It’s not easy to get out of a contract once it’s signed. Without paying for it that is.

How many miles you think you’ll clock up will also determine whether you choose to lease a vehicle. Your lease will stipulate the amount you’ve agreed to keep within so if you’re a prolific driver, consider taking out a longer lease so that you won’t be faced with penalties at the end of your lease.

Being careless with the car while it’s in your possession is also a no-no. Leasing companies will always check the car for wear and tear at the end of a lease. The car does not have to be perfect but if there is more damage than the company is happy with, you can expect to pay dearly. Make sure you are fully aware of what a lease entails before you jump into a contract.
