How To Use Windshield Repair Kits
Windshield repair kits can make your glass look great if it has been nicked by gravel or other matter that made a chick. They are not nearly as effective when dealing with a running crack. No matter the problem you are facing, repairs should not be conducted in the sun’s glare. This will make the glass too warm for you to work with the resins used in the process.
The first step is to pick out any little pieces of glass that are in the chipped area by pecking at it with a razor blade. Once you are certain that you have gotten all this material out, the problem zone needs a thorough cleaning with cloth and glass cleaner. Allow the region to fully dry before going further.
Take the suction tool that is in the kit and place it so that the center section sits right above the chipped area. Thread the repair tube into this section and hand tighten. To make sure the tip of the tube is exactly over the chip, get in your car and check. If it is off, remove the suction tool and put it in the right place.
Open up the tube of resin and squeeze three or four drops of it into the tube. Do not waste any time inserting the plunger provided into the repair tube. Screw it almost all the way down. This will provide the pressure that forces the resin into the glitch. Once it becomes hard to tighten further, loosen it briefly to let any air bubbles out, and then tighten it once more.
The resin should dry for about a minute. But not completely before removing the entire suction apparatus. Quickly place a section of the film for finishing atop the resin. Using a razor blade, push the resin towards the film edges. Use a piece of tape to make sure the film remains in position as the resin dries.
The resin has to be utterly dry before the film can come off. Wait at least ten minutes. If you fail to wait long enough, you may have to go through the process of putting on another resin drop and piece of finishing film. The repair zone may be cleaned through scrapes with a razor blade. You have done the work well once it can no longer be seen.
Windshield repair kits are designed to make the glass look as good as new. If you are not satisfied with how the job looks after taking these steps, try repeating the process again. The aim is to make the surface of the resin perfectly smooth and even with the glass. This may not be so easy for you to do on your first attempt, but there is no limit to the number of times that you can repeat this procedure.
